Ultime album de Serpent Column, Kathodos est une perle rare de black metal. Ce qui saute aux yeux, c'est le soin apporté à la dimension technique : Theophonos créé un ensemble d'une cohésion parfaite et utilise des jeux d'échos avec des riffs dévastateurs qui vont et reviennent de manière différente ("Kathodos"/"Anodos", première et septième pistes, etc.). Cet album est en somme un moyen de nous enfermer dans un palais des glaces sur lequel Theophonos tire à coups de boulets de canons. Insane !

Ἡ εἰκών was an impressive debut, but way too short! Luckily, Ψευδομένη arrives to satisfy the urge for more of what made its precedessor hit hard and fast: some atmospheric moments (don't be deterred as this is still brutal, dissonant and disgusting to the core) and at the same time, J.L. is exploring longer tracks - e.g. my personal favourite - and implementing some cavernous lows. If there's one thing we can all agree on, it's most likely that this man refuses to stand still. What a pace!

Dans Invicta, Theophonos reprend une formule qu'il maîtrise bien : un black metal furieux s'inspirant de thèmes antiques grecs qui aura vite fait de perdre la personne inattentive. Mais en même temps, il sait comment changer cette formule — et il ne fait vraiment pas semblant — puisque cet album est en grande partie instrumental. Theophonos, en vrai virtuose, a l'audace de créer une ouverture de 14 minutes qui passe comme un ouragan. Comme quoi, le titre de l'album ne ment pas : il est invaincu.

What a BEAST of an album. When it comes to blending black metal and mathcore, these guys and Hoplites are the clear leaders of the pack. This album is sheer annihilation of everything in it's path. Pure chaos and destruction. And it is beautiful.
